WHO AM I?
JEANELLE WHEELER (she/her) is a facilitator, writer, musician, activist, bird-lover, peacemaker, vegan, language-learner, and public transit advocate.

Jeanelle works to cultivate learning spaces of dialogue and creativity. She has worked in a variety of educational spaces both inside and outside of traditional classrooms. After working as an ESL English teacher in Providence Public Schools, she moved to Denver where she facilitated learning in history museums (History Colorado), after-school peace education programs (Peacejam), public library English and citizenship classes (Denver Public Library) and a high school summer program on leadership and social change (Brown University's Leadership Institute). She has also worked for experiential, global sustainability gap year programs in Ecuador, the Dominican Republic, Panama and Costa Rica (EF) as well as high school language immersion programs in Rennes, France and Berlin, Germany (CIEE). She continued in the world of international education through her work as a Global Programs Associate at Montclair State University in New Jersey where she supported students in accessing study abroad opportunities. She also has worked for Brown's Experiential Education (BEE) program as On-Site Director for a pre-college program on public policy at Oxford University.

Jeanelle holds Bachelor degrees in Literary Arts and French and Francophone Studies as well as a Master of Arts in Teaching from her beloved Brown University. After graduating, she received a Fulbright grant to be an English Teaching Assistant outside Lyon, France. This fellowship fueled and funded her love of intercultural exchange. She has since traveled the world and is thrilled to now re-cultivate a home base in Providence where she lives with her husband, Prateek and freelances as a tennis coach and a clarinet instructor.

She grew up amidst the deer and woodchucks of her small hometown Auburn's New England woods, right outside Worcester, MA. (Home of the smiley face!) She left schooling after ninth grade to pursue an untraditional education - a mix of college classes, Auburn High School activities, unschool co-ops, and self-directed learning. She grew up in these Worcester-area alternative education spaces and was shaped by the love of her Dad, a natural storyteller, and her Mom, a Catholic peace activist.

Inspired by her roots in the Worcester peace community, Jeanelle was shaped by growing up within spaces like the Catholic Worker Movement, Agape Community, and Pax Christi. She continues her advocacy work with them today, serving on Agape's Mission Council and Pax Christi's Young Adult Caucus and Anti-Racism Team. In Rhode Island she has learned alongside the refugee and immigrant community, volunteering for years as a classroom assistant for Dorcas International Institute and now serving on the Board of Directors of RYSE: Rhode Island Youth Solidarity through Education.

In her spare time, Jeanelle can be found riding buses, eating hummus, and listening to birds. Connect with her below using LinkedIn or the "Contact" form on this website.
